On the eve of the 15th anniversary of Matthew Shepard's murder, DC's Politics & Prose bookstore is hosting Stephen Jiminez, the author of "The Book of Matt."
Throughout the Fall, several other bookstores around the country are also hosting Jiminez.
Jiminez claims that Matthew and his murderer Aaron McKinney were lovers and meth dealers. Despite the lack of any factual evidence to back up his claims, Jiminez is still touring the country on the gruesome anniversary to sell his innuendo and lie-filled book.
Politics & Prose believes every author, despite the bigotry and lies they are spreading, should have a platform at their store.
The book has been thoroughly debunked by Media Matters: http://mediamatters.org/blog/2013/10/02/debunking-stephen-jimenezs-effort-to-de-gay-mat/196229

As a person who values the memory and legacy of Matthew Shepard, I am extraordinarily disappointed that you would give a platform to author Stephen Jiminez.
As you have been made aware, his book is full of innuendo based on anonymous sources and has now been thoroughly debunked by Media Matters. On top of that, every person who actually was close to Matthew has also spoken out against this book.
The fact that you are hosting this conspiracy theorist and LGBT hate crime denier on 15th anniversary of Matthew's gruesome murder only confirms the fact that you are in it only for the book sales.
Please cancel this tasteless event.
