With the recent updates from the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) regarding mask wearing and quarantine within Schools, the BFSD is meeting at 9:00 am, Sunday May 16th. At the last board meeting there was a “feeling” from some of the board members that making the mask wearing optional is unlikely the remainder of the year due to the contact tracing and quarantine guidelines set forth by the IDPH and Polk County.
The good news is that the board can take the advice from the “experts”, as they would say they are doing, and stop being hypocritical with continuing this push to keep the children masked without choice now that the IDPH has changed their stance (if individuals don’t know what the new guidance is from the IDPH, click here to view the article). If the children want to continue to wear masks they can but I would encourage the Parents and Students to stand up and starting Monday, May 17th, 2021, no matter what the Board decides today (May 16), to send your kids to School without masks.
For a group of leadership from our district stating that very few Children or Staff complain or say much about being FORCED to wear a mask at at school, it is rather astonishing to see the support from the Parents and more importantly the Students and Staff of the community within this petition. Let’s make your voices louder by sharing this petition to reach a new goal of 1,000 signatures by May 24, 2021 in which another Board meeting will occur and many supporters of this movement will attend to vocalize their concerns about the dictatorship from our District.
Based upon previous board meeting notes, although not “Science” related, the Board looked to reference an article from the Des Moines Register around why kids should continue to wear masks back in Early April 2021. Are they now going to reference the newest article from the Des Moines Register regarding their decision today?
