Make Election Day a Campus Holiday at the University of Arizona

Make Election Day a Campus Holiday at the University of Arizona
The Issue
On November 3rd, 2020 the country will face a monumental decision at the ballot box. Our foremost duty as citizens of the United States of America is to exercise our right to vote, and elect leaders that will make our country better. In Arizona, young voters make up about one fifth of the electorate. Our voices have never mattered more!
At the University of Arizona, our official academic calendar shows a day of classes as usual on November 3rd. Whether the UA administration realizes it or not, they are actively suppressing student and employee voters by forcing many of us to choose between getting an education, earning income, or going to vote. With the recent efforts to limit mail-in voting, it is even more important that we are guaranteed adequate time to cast our ballots and make our voices heard.
We are demanding that the University of Arizona declare Election Day a campus holiday, thus canceling classes and instating paid time off for all university employees on Election Day. This will ensure the entire campus community has an equal opportunity to participate in our democratic process. Election Day should be a national holiday; the University of Arizona should lead by example. #UAVotes
