The Issue
From early days as a student at Cherry Hill High School East, I was fortunate to be graced with the mentorship and guidance of two extraordinary teachers, Bob Nation and Tom Weaver. Their passion for theater and dedication to teaching not only fueled my aspirations but also paved the way for countless students who pursued theater as a career. Under Bob and Tom’s watch, I developed a deep appreciation for the craft, which eventually led me to major in theater at NYU and embark on a fulfilling career in film, TV, and theater. Before knowing them, I had no idea that such a career was possible for me.
Bob Nation and Tom Weaver dedicated their careers to the arts and education, teaching theater kids from 1970 to 2019 (combined), instilling in each a sense of professionalism and a love for the performing arts that transcends generations. They were not merely educators but life guides, who empowered students to be confident, compassionate and well-rounded individuals. Their impact is evident in the numerous success stories of their students who have thrived in various fields around the globe.
In recognition of their unparalleled contributions to our community and the lasting legacy they have left behind, it is fitting to name the newly renovated theater at Cherry Hill HS East in their honor. This will serve as a tribute to their endless dedication and an inspiration to future generations of theater students.
This would be a posthumous naming for Tom Weaver and a powerful way to show his family how important he was to us and to the theater program. For Bob - to receive a dedication for creating and running the most amazing high school theater program around, alongside Tom, is well deserved and fitting.
We kindly urge the Cherry Hill Board of Education and the administration of Cherry Hill High School East to honor Bob Nation and Tom Weaver by naming the theater after these two beloved educators whose influence has touched so many lives.
