Dear Supporter,

Long story short: Rather than requiring its pork suppliers to phase gestation crates out entirely, Costco is now telling them that it is okay to "limit the use of gestation crates".

Basic freedom of movement is the least we can offer any animal in captivity ... especially one that you profit from.  That's why it's so disturbing that Costco can justify confining an animal in a space so small it can't turn around for weeks at a time.

Do you want Costco to require its major pork suppliers to stop using crates altogether? Do you expect more from Costco? Then please take a few minutes and complete these steps today. Remember to always be polite in your communications.

1. Create a post on Costco's Facebook page. Tell them you want to buy crate free pork.

2. Costco members: Call 1-800-774-2678  - Option #4.  Have your membership number handy. Please post Costco's response in the discussion section below.

Message suggestion: Costco's latest animal welfare policy says it is OK to confine pigs in crates at certain times.  Do Costco leaders really think it is OK to ever confine an animal in a cage so small it can't turn around for weeks at a time?

Today it is common industry knowledge that the technology exists to safely keep mother pigs in group housing. We think it’s time for Costco to phase out this inhumane, outdated practice once and for all, and make life a little more humane for the animals they profit from.
