Variance for Ceremony Tattoo!

The Issue

John DeWeese is in the process of bringing Ceremony Tattoo to the historic Garfield Park neighborhood. In January of 2019, he began the process of opening a business at 2629 Shelby Street, Indianapolis, IN 46203 after consulting with the city of Indianapolis to ensure the building was properly zoned for a tattoo studio.  With the help of many friends,  family, and the community, the process of clearing out what once was a fully functioning book store and turning it into a tattoo shop began. Despite the heat and water being off most of that time, we continued to paint, build, and remove items; within 7 weeks we were approaching opening.   After spending $10,000+ and working hundreds of man hours, the shop was a week from opening when it received a violation stating a tattoo shop was not allowed at the location due to being 1000 feet within a protected district.  John DeWeese is now seeking approval for a Variance of Development Standards to allow Ceremony Tattoo to be at 2629 Shelby Street (legal address 2627 Shelby Street).  With your help by signing this petition, we can bring the Garfield Park community its first tattoo studio, Ceremony Tattoo, a shop geared towards artistic and creative endeavor. If you are in support of a tattoo shop being at this property, please sign the petition!  Also feel free to leave a comment/letter of support or personally send a letter of support to 2629 Shelby Street, Indianapolis, IN 46203.

Ceremony Tattoo is John DeWeese and Devin Silver, artists with over 20 years combined experience in the tattoo industry. Our goal is to provide a service to our customers with an emphasis on integrity, sterility, and creative approach.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email John DeWeese at xdbtox@gmail.com.

And thank you all for your support! We hope to be contributing neighbors to the Garfield Park community soon!
