From a practical standpoint, killing deer on Weston town-owned land does little, if anything, to reduce the incidence of tick-borne illness in humans. To have any affect, we'd need to wipe out hundreds of animals when climate change is more likely the culprit of an uptick in ticks. We'd be better off reducing barberry shrubs or importing tick-eating opossums (they eat 5000 ticks every season!). 

From a philosophical perspective, humans use the same model of superiority over animals that we use for sexism and racism. To quote philosopher, Syl Ko, "The human-animal divide is the ideological bedrock underlying the framework of white supremacy." In other words, we should stand against ALL forms of oppression if we claim to live by moral convictions.
