Ross Lemoine started this petition to Board of Selectmen

On May 3rd, 2021 the Rutland MA Board of Selectman voted to cancel the 4th of July parade and fireworks again due to the covid virus despite numbers continually going down and more people being vaccinated. The Governor of Massachusetts has lifted and changed restrictions. Today May 4th, 2021 there is only 718 new cases, out of an estimated State population of 6,892,503 per the United States Census Board. That is only a 0.01% positivity rate. We believe this is something that should be able to happen this year and the town residents should get a say in it. We understand the fireworks have the potential to not be feasible but the parade should be able to happen. Residents are able to space out along the parade route if need be. With the outdoor mask mandate being lifted, masks for these events can also be required to make these events possible. This is an outdoor event therefore how can you truly limit a number to the outdoors? These event decisions should be made on facts, numbers and what the community wants. Not on the opinions and beliefs of a five member board with a Board of Health member.  Please help us bring this before the Board of Selectmen to have them reconsider and evaluate their decision and get our parade back. It's something to look forward to year after year, especially after a tough year of being quarantined.

* Try to limit to voting Rutland Residents only being a Rutland hosted event
