Stop the sale of a significant portion of Union Point Park, New Bern, NC
As part of the sale of the old Elks building in downtown New Bern, NC to the Kessler Collection (Orlando, FL), the city's Board of Aldermen has approved a Memorandum of Understanding that includes the sale of two other parcels of land in downtown. One of those parcels is a significant portion of Union Point Park, a central attraction of historic downtown New Bern with magnificent views of the Neuse and Trent Rivers as well as the downtown skyline. The park is an important gathering area for walking along the rivers' edge, family gatherings and picnics, children playing, summer events and concerts, fishing, boating, friends meeting, and many, many other activities.
We the undersigned oppose the sale of any part of Union Point Park and ask the Board of Aldermen to remove the sale of this land from the Memorandum of Understanding before it is executed.
