Medical VS. Cosmetic

The Issue

Anyone who has had either weight loss surgery or lost a certain amount of weight without surgery almost always has excess skin issues. In that comes skin issues like abscesses, chronic yeast infections, cellulitis, etc....Most insurance companies view this as cosmetic surgery but really its more of health issue for people that have excess skin. I had weight loss surgery October 2011, lost 100 lbs, now I'm left with excess skin on my back (now I have a rash on the center of my back due to the skin folds), arms, and thighs. I also had hanging skin on my stomach, I was getting infections in my belly button. The insurance company paid to have the skin removed "because it impede my bodily functions". I think the excess skin on the thighs will also impede the bodily functions.  This is my hope to raise awearness to the public, insurance companies and the medical professionals that the next step after losing weight is to have the excess skin remove to prevent more rashes, and be more confident with the success of my weight loss. I am seeking assistance as well as any suggestions on how I can resolve these issues as the rashes and discomfort are a real issue and the surgery would not be a cosmetic endeavor. I go back and forth, do I want the skin removed because the hanging skin is a reminder of my accomplishments, or do I want the skin removed because it is a reminder of being over weight. Since weight loss surgery is becoming more popular I think having skin removed is another step to the weight loss surgery.
