MAKE BLOOMSBURG STREETS FEEL SAFE

MAKE BLOOMSBURG STREETS FEEL SAFE
The Issue
On October 17th, 2020 a Bloomsburg University student Sean Sears, 21 years of age, was struck by a motorcycle crossing Lightstreet road following the crosswalk. He is in critical condition at the Danville Geisinger Hospital. This accident is not the first that has happened on Lightstreet road and as a community we need to come together and prevent these dangers and obvious devastation. The bend at the top of the hill located before Uni Mart gas station and near the heating plant on the corner of Lightstreet is extremely dangerous and we need a solution for this ongoing issue. The students and residents of Bloomsburg deserve to feel safe when crossing a street. We are making this petition to get the Bloomsburg City Council and/or the Bloomsburg Mayor to assemble help from the community to build a traffic light at the intersection by the uni mart gas station. We also believe adding speed bumps by the Lightstreet houses to slow down vehicles where students and residents cross. The speed limit should easily be lowered to 15-25 mph considering it is where Bloomsburg University students and local residents cross and walk to class or through town. Lightstreet road is one of the busiest roads leading into the town of Bloomsurg and something needs to be put in place to keep everyone in this town safe. We believe this change is vital for our community and could save many lives. We cannot have another tragic accident happen to someone in our community like this again. Please sign this petition, it could possibly save someone you know and prevent future accidents like our dearest friend and loved classmate, Sean Sears. Thank you. Please keep Sean and his family in your prayers and thoughts.
