Bloomfield residents oppose construction of Taco/Wendy's at 1243 Broad Street
Why this petition matters
UPDATE: This petition was a huge success! The city council has denied this building plan.
There is currently a plan in place for a massive 4,000+ square foot Wendy's and Taco Bell at 1243 Broad Street, Bloomfield NJ right across from Brookdale Elementary School.
We OPPOSE this construction plan due to the following reasons:
1) Increased traffic at the Broad Street/W Passaic intersection. This is already a high traffic area and traffic will only increase with the construction of 2 GINORMOUS fast food restaurants!
2) Safety considerations due to the proximity of Brookdale School and young children crossing Broad Street. Many young families and school children cross Broad Street during 8am and 3pm. The creation of these huge fast food restaurants will result increased traffic that increases the risk of traffic and pedestrian accidents, especially for small children!
3) Noise pollution and increased litter: Fast food restaurants generate vast amounts of garbage and spread trash throughout the surrounding residential area. Larger scale fast food restaurants= MORE TRASH and LITTER. We DO NOT want this for the Brookdale residential area.
UPDATE: The response has so far been great and I am happy to see so many Bloomfielders mobilized and caring about their community. The strongest impact we can make through this petition is to let the Planning Board know we do not want them to accept the proposed variances for the project: 1) a bigger driveway, 2) bigger signs, and 3) fewer parking lots than required for the seating capacity. At the end of the day a private property owner is allowed to develop their property within the law, but we do not have to bend the rules for them if it is at the detriment of our community.
