Block the OBE Recognition of Rachael Wardell for Failing Disabled Children

The Issue

As personally affected individuals, we raise our voice against Rachel Wardell being honoured with an OBE in the King's Honours List. As the driving force behind Surrey County Council's Children's Services, Rachel Wardell is responsible for the continuous negligence of our disabled children. Our personal experiences echo the sentiments of thousands of families and their children who are let down and unheard, whilst trying to secure their children the same education and life chances afforded to children without disabilities.

Under her tenure, the Council has not only failed to provide adequate support, education and resources to disabled children, but has also created an environment where their needs are habitually overlooked and parents are ignored. The Council's Ofsted Inspections show there are critical weaknesses in its provisions for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and sadly very little has been done to address these concerns.

Considering her track record of failure within Surrey County Council, awarding Rachel Wardell an OBE would send a devastating message to the families and their disabled children affected by her negligence. It would seem as though failure and a lack of consideration for one of the most vulnerable factions of society is acceptable, and worthy of honour and praise. This cannot be allowed to be the case!

We call upon the appropriate body to reassess consideration of bestowing upon her this award, as it would belittle the struggles, fights, legal battles and overwhelming pressure and strain that parents undergo whilst trying to secure the education and support our disabled children are legally entitled to. Sign this petition to reject Rachel Wardell's OBE recognition.
