The Issue

As a resident of Covina, I am deeply concerned about the proposed installation of a battery storage facility on Edna Place, adjacent to the Southern California Edison (SCE) substation. This proposal threatens the safety and well-being of our community, raising critical issues that need immediate attention.

Firstly, the risk of toxic vapors cannot be overlooked. Battery storage facilities are known to have potential hazards, including the release of harmful chemicals in case of leakage or failure. Studies indicate that certain types of batteries can emit gases like hydrogen fluoride and sulfur dioxide under stressful conditions, which can cause severe respiratory issues and environmental damage.

Moreover, there's a real danger of chemical runoff affecting our local environment. Such contamination poses a threat to local water sources, plant life, and even wildlife, which makes our community unique and beautiful. The safety protocols suggested by the installers may not fully account for unforeseen accidents or natural disasters, which could exacerbate these risks.

Beyond environmental concerns, the installation could lead to increased traffic and noise pollution, disrupting the peaceful life we cherish in Covina. The construction phase itself is likely to bring heavy machinery and additional noise, disturbing our day-to-day activities and potentially decreasing our property values.

It's imperative that our voices are heard. We should not allow corporations to potentially compromise the health, safety, and tranquility of our neighborhood. By signing this petition, you stand with us to demand that our local authorities reconsider this project and explore alternative locations for the facility, possibly away from residential areas.

Please sign this petition to protect Covina from possible environmental and health hazards. Our community deserves a safe and thriving environment. Your support can help us make a difference.
