After the public consultation and outrage from the local community and visitors regarding the design and build of the blocks on the Folkestone harbour, the architect has refined the plans.
A meeting was held on 30/10/2023 by philanthropist, Sir Roger De Haan and architect, Duarte Lobo Antunes, explaining the revised plans.
The height of the build has been lowered slightly, and some areas between the blocks, widened, which may improve the light level between the builds.
The area that is required for the build to sit upon, would need to be raised due to rising sea levels.
There is a plan to have car parking underground, though it was not stated if the parking would be ample for residents and visitors.
There was no mention of infrastructure or how the sewage system for such large builds would cope.
The design remains disjointed, architecturally out of keeping, not sympathetic aesthetically to the historical Folkestone harbour.
The views will be blocked by the build looking towards Folkestone from the harbour arm and out from Folkestone, to the channel, ruining our heritage coast.
This harbour space was never designed for such a build, the plan still remains a blanket of concrete blocks, that will be hit full force by the elements of our English weather and gale-force winds.
The build is not affordable housing, though it may be debatable, if those able to buy, would truly wish to live in them, when they realise how ferocious our weather conditions can be.
We now await the submission of the plans to the council, when all concerns relating to the build can be submitted to planning.
