Block out the Sun Yard & say "No!" to a hotel development in our neighborhood!

An out of state real estate company is pushing for a massive hotel development on St. Claude Ave in New Orleans, and we have to stop them!
A Philadelphia-based real estate company has purchased five separate lots from 3000-3032 St. Claude Ave in the 9th ward of New Orleans. These properties make up the art and residential space known as “The Truck Farm,” the former home of ChazFest. The developers have tried to purchase surrounding homes from neighbors who have resided in the area for decades. One of their first actions was to refuse to renew the leases of tenants who were living in these properties, to make way for this development. The developers plan to construct these 5 properties and the large plot of land they are attached to into a boutique hotel and high-end entertainment complex called “The Sun Yard.”
The Sun Yard would operate as a 75-person hotel with parking lots located on Feliciana St and St. Claude Ave. They intend to demolish the interior of these historic homes to convert them into hotel units. Additionally, the hotel will have a pool, outdoor bar and lounge, and they intend to host weddings each weekend in addition to other special events. The Sun Yard would be roughly 41,000 sq ft altogether, the size of 6 Bacchanals and 1/6 the size of the Superdome.
The Sun Yard would result in dramatic changes to our neighborhood. This development would rapidly accelerate gentrification in the 9th ward and further displace working New Orleanians, raise rents and property taxes, increase noise levels, bring more tourists to our neighborhoods and significantly deteriorate the quality-of-life for area residents.
We oppose the Sun Yard and request that City Council reject this proposed commercial development in our neighborhood. We are calling on all concerned New Orleanians and our supporters to sign this petition and voice their opposition to the Sun Yard.
