Block liquor store from opening near Boyd-Booth churches

Block liquor store from opening near Boyd-Booth churches
The Issue
We, the undersigned members of the community and neighborhood churches, are coming together in unity to ask Baltimore City to block the proposed opening of a liquor store at 2014 Frederick Avenue.
This location is just steps away from God is King Center (2000 Frederick Avenue), across the street from Charm City Church, and within the block of other neighboring churches. City law clearly states that liquor stores cannot open within 300 feet of a church or school, and for good reason. Our churches are meant to be places of hope, healing, and safety for families.
At God is King Center, we work every week to feed our neighbors hot meals, provide fresh produce, clothing, and hygiene items, and create a safe space where people can find support and encouragement. Charm City Church and other churches in the area are also pouring their hearts into uplifting this community.
Allowing a liquor store to open next door would undo so much of that positive work. Instead of building up, it would bring challenges and influences that directly harm the people we are all trying to help.
This is not just about a law. It is about protecting our families, our youth, and the future of West Baltimore.
We are respectfully asking Baltimore City leaders and licensing officials to stand with us by denying the liquor license for 2014 Frederick Avenue.
Together, let us keep our neighborhood moving forward, not backward.
The city hearing on this matter is October 9th at 9:30am. We would like as many signatures as possible to show decision makers that we don’t want another liquor store in this neighborhood.
