The Issue
On October 24th, 1993 Matthew Svanberg murdered Dennis John Folk, age 26, during a robbery of the Getty gas station in Ridge, NY. Dennis was working and was shot in the head and left to die as Matthew Svanberg fled with his partner in a waiting getaway car. It took almost 5 years to apprehend the pair and they were in fact only caught due to Svanberg's bragging about having killed someone in Ridge.
Matthew Svanberg was convicted of 2nd degree murder and sentenced to a term of 25 years to life. He will have served the MINIMUM of his 25 to life sentence when he is considered for parole in September.
It's bad enough that our loved ones' lives are valued in as little as 15, 20 or 25 years and at most life in prison-with iPads, movies, trade skill opportunities and the finest educations that OUR money can buy them. 25 to life should not mean an automatic get out of jail free at 25 years. 25 to life means at 25 years your record is reviewed, the crime, as well as your behavior in prison and your remorse, if any, that you've shown for your crime of murder. Svanberg has shown NO remorse.
Please help us to keep this bragging killer in prison, where he belongs, for the full term of his sentence-LIFE. Svanberg's release is at odds with the safety of society. With all of your help we prevented his release last year, please help us do it again.
We, the undersigned, STRONGLY OPPOSE the parole of Matthew Svanberg, MURDERER DIN#00A5433. Justice demands he serve the full sentence given to him at the time of his conviction-LIFE-due to his danger to society.
