Block IXL from Schools and Homes

Block IXL from Schools and Homes
The Issue
IXL is a widely used learning platform in schools across the country. Yet, it has become a source of frustration for many students, including myself. Recently, I noticed that IXL's scoring system seems unfair and unnecessarily harsh. In one instance, my score barely increased when I answered a question correctly, going up by only 2 points. However, as soon as I made one mistake, half of my score was deducted, leaving me feeling devastated and angry. This inconsistent scoring is not just demoralizing for students, but also counterproductive to learning.
Many educators and parents are unaware of how the platform penalizes mistakes more harshly than it rewards correct answers. This punitive approach does not reflect real-world learning scenarios, where making mistakes is an essential part of the learning process. It creates an environment where students are afraid to make mistakes, which can hinder their intellectual growth and curiosity.
Education should be about fostering a love for learning and encouraging students to tackle challenges with resilience and critical thinking. Instead of promoting these values, IXL's current system discourages them by implementing a grading mechanism that causes anxiety and frustration.
By blocking IXL from schools and homes, we can create space for educational tools that embrace a growth mindset and prioritize genuine understanding over rote memorization and fear of failure. Given the impact on student morale and the potential damage to their educational experience, I urge decision makers in educational institutions and parents alike to consider alternative platforms that focus on holistic learning approaches.
Please sign this petition to block IXL and help promote a healthier, more effective learning environment for all students.
