No one should fear worshiping in their house of faith.

But after federal immigration agents entered Catholic churches in California and made arrests on parish property, fear has spread through immigrant communities—forcing some to stay home from Mass and retreat from spiritual life.

Churches are meant to be sanctuaries, not sites of government raids.

San Bernardino Bishop Alberto Rojas recently suspended the Sunday Mass obligation to protect parishioners too afraid to attend in person. The fear is real—and it’s spreading.

We call on the Department of Homeland Security and ICE to immediately ban enforcement actions on church grounds nationwide. All people, regardless of immigration status, should be free to pray without fear.
