Block ALL Data Centers at Munster's Kenmara Technology Park Before It's Too Late
The Issue
The Munster Plan Commission just voted to delay — not deny — a proposed amendment that could open the door to a data center at the Kenmara Technology Park, a 60-acre site in the heart of our community. More than 50 residents showed up to oppose it.
Not one spoke in favor. And yet, the commission tabled the vote rather than rejecting the amendment outright.
The Kenmara site sits within a single mile of a high school, a middle school, a community hospital, and hundreds of homes. Data centers bring serious consequences for the people who live nearby: surging electricity bills, heavy water consumption, constant noise, and light pollution. Once a developer meets the required checklist of approvals, towns often lose the ability to say no — and residents are left holding the costs.
The developer and the town say a data center isn't planned. But residents deserve more than a promise. Neighboring Indiana cities like Valparaiso and Portage are pursuing moratoriums and strict zoning protections. Munster should do the same.
Sign this petition to urge the Munster Town Council to reject the Kenmara amendment and establish clear, enforceable protections that give residents — not developers — the final say on what gets built in our neighborhood.
