Why is there a BLM Protest?
The climate on campus has been warming up when it is centered around the conversation of race, ethnicity, and the acknowledgement of POC (POC= People of Color, which includes Latinx, Asian, Indigenous, or anyone who is not Caucasian) students on campus. There has been an ongoing issue of the lack of representation of POC, people within the faculty that reflects the student body; college has continued to not live up to its promises of diversity and inclusion. We are holding them accountable and speaking up to demand change. POC people want to be seen, valued, heard, and respected just like White people. We plan on doing this through a variety of ways, such as a DPS taser ban.
- DPS Taser Ban
- Overhaul DPS Away from Traditional Law Enforcement Philosophy to Community/Social Philosophy
Why is there an End Socioeconomic Inequality Protest?
Not all students have the privilege of being on campus and ONLY being a student. Some students have to work way more than others because of their personal financial situation. In order to allow students to better focus on why they were accepted at Gettysburg, we demand affirmative action towards eliminating unnecessary economic barriers for students. For example, we call for the elimination of GPA requirements for non-academic jobs, such as the CUB Desk and tour guiding. The GPA of a student does not tell the hiring manager anything of substance about the student and only creates hurdles for otherwise qualified students trying to pay for the education they deserve.

Why is there an End Rape Culture on Campus Protest?
It is no secret that there has been a long time issue of sexual assault on campus. The college says it is “committed to fostering a safe community for all, promoting dignity and appreciation and creating a campus environment where sexual misconduct and interpersonal violence is unacceptable”. The college is clearly not living up to its claim, which is why we demand more staff and funding dedicated for the Title IX Office and the creation of a fully funded and staff Sexual Assault Survivors’s Advocate Office. There are only 5 staff members in the Title IX Office currently and only one part-time Survivor’s Advocate, leading to a severe shortage of help for the many who need it. The college must make students’ health and safety a real priority by allocating proper resources towards stopping sexual violence and helping survivor’s heal and become empowered. We also demand the college Plan B cost and time accessible for students to further empower survivors and the majority of students in times of crisis.
