Request to Blizzard for a poll regarding Linux

The Issue

Linux usage has gradually been increasing over the years and continues to do so. While sources estimate Linux Desktop usage share at only a few percents, these estimates are known to have a high margin of error. What's more, an important note is that these estimates are based on browser usage statistics, which are uncorrelated to statistics regarding gamers (and of Blizzard games in particular)

There was recently a petition that took off by Andrew McKinnon which gained quite a lot of signatures quite quickly. We are grateful that Blizzard responded to that petition. However, we feel that the stated reason for not supporting native Linux clients may be based on incorrect statistics.

By signing this petition, we ask Blizzard to perform a complete survey of Linux gamers among its community. This can be done via a Poll, active for a large enough amount of time (for example 1 month) and presented both on Blizzard websites and the Launcher. The results of this poll would be a much better estimate of what percentage of Blizzard gamers are actually interested in a native Linux client.

We suggest the following question and options in the poll:

Q: Would you rather play your favorite blizzard games on Linux with a native client?

A1: Yes, I would love to use a Native Linux client

A2: No, I only use Windows/Mac

A3: Yes, but I don't mind dual-booting/using wine

The results of this poll would give Blizzard a better estimate of the number of Linux gamers. It would also give the Linux gamers themselves a better understanding of their community size.

By signing this petition, we kindly ask Blizzard to perform this simple research.
