Hi everyone,
It's thanks to your support and our perseverance that we are making progress with Blink Fitness and their efforts into making Blink a safe and welcoming space for trans and gender non-conforming people. I met with David Collignon, vice-president of operations to discuss this petition further, get to know one another and brainstorm.
WHAT WAS DISCUSSED?
1. The addition of gender-inclusive signs as per our petition. David seemed very open to idea and we hope Blink makes this first effort.
2. The addition of an all gender locker. David and I discussed some of the difficulties into making that possible in 50+ gyms, especially considering pluming and limited space but this is not out of consideration and moving forward Blink should make it a priority to implement a 3rd locker in future gyms.
3. A private changing area within the gendered lockers. One idea we discussed was the implementation of curtains, hanging from the ceiling, that would act as a private changing space. In that way, at least some privacy is created and it would not only benefit trans and gender non-conforming people who may not want to undress in front of other members, but also benefit members who are already seeking privacy.
4. The need for tampons on the vending machines of men's lockers, as well as trash containers inside the stalls to dispose of tampons. This is a must-have in any locker!
Thank you David, we look forward to hearing from you with an update!
