Sackville Memorial Hospital Emergency Services night closure

Recent News reports have stated that the Government of New Brunswick is planning on closing Sackville Memorial Hospital Emergency services, along with those of 5 other rural hospitals, from 10 pm until 8 am, 7 days per week.
In advance of an official announcement, the community of Sackville, New Brunswick requests that Premier Blaine Higgs and Minister of Health Hugh Flemming, hold consultations with the affected communities BEFORE implementing this plan.
Not having our emergency services open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week will have far reaching consequences for all of our communities. Most especially, there are questions regarding transportation of emergency cases, effects on low and limited income families, response time and work load for ambulance services and the already stretched services that will be used to cover these hours.
This government's last report stated " A dedicated non-emergency transfer service for hospital patients was announced that will help improve ambulance response times in emergency situations." and "A rapid response unit pilot program was introduced to improve access to emergency medical care in rural areas."
Until these two projects, at least, are implemented, closure of our 24 hour emergency services will leave a gap in the health services of our communities. Emergency services are not just about the number of patients, but also the types of services required. The volume–outcome relationship is complex, especially at a hospital emergency level, and high volumes being sent to our city hospitals will not necessarily lead to better care. Let's give all of our citizens the best chance at staying healthy. Hold community consultations.
