VICTORIA FACING BLACKOUTS ON THREE FRONTS – RENEWABLES FAILURE NO 1 DAILY SHORTAGE OF FUEL
The attempt to phase out fossil fuels in Victoria and replace them with Solar, Wind and Batteries is on the point of collapse. And the failures it will bring will be immense.
Failure No 1. Fuel supplies are of critical importance. A story to explain.
If a car salesman, knocked on your door and tried to sell you a car. You might be interested. But if, he then admitted that on every day, during the day. The car would only have enough fuel for six or seven hours at best, with some days if it was cloudy or raining, it could be much less and even some days none. And as soon as the sun set each night, it could not be driven for the next seventeen or eighteen hours because it had no fuel. WHAT A LEMON
I think it would be certain, that once, you had heard the salesman explain the car’s problem of a daily, critical lack of fuel. You would no longer, want to buy the car, in fact you would say he was operating a scam.
The daily lack of weather fuel (Sunshine). Is the reason that solar panels, whether they be rooftop or in a solar farm? Have exactly the same problem as the car in the story above. And why they should never be considered for powering an electricity Grid. To explain, the fuel of solar panels, which is Sunshine, is only available (particularly in Winter) for six or seven hours at best, during the day. With some days, because of cloud and rain, it could be much less and even some days none at all. And as soon as the Sun sets each night, no electricity can be converted for the next seventeen or eighteen hours because the solar panels have no fuel. Rendering them more of a liability than a benefit.
Wind turbines, because their fuel is, wind at just the right speed. Have very similar problems to solar panels. In fact, the wind industry average production, for wind turbines is only 33% or 8 hours a day. With wind droughts of hours, days or weeks being a huge problem. And on the other side gales, are equally as bad, resulting in wind turbines being shut down for hours and even days, with no electricity being produced.
Incorporating, a Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), is of no actual benefit. Batteries alone can never produce any electricity. The purpose of a BESS is to store surplus energy from solar and wind catchers and resell it at a higher price. Batteries are inefficient as they lose between 7% and 10% of the electricity as it is converted from AC to DC current on the way into the BESS. And another 7% to 10% is lost as the current is converted from DC to AC current on the way out of the BESS. This loss makes a BESS, another renewable that only increases the price of electricity to the consumer. The life of a BESS is relatively short with most battery manufacturers currently offering a five-year battery life. This would mean the capital cost for every MWh stored would be high. With the batteries being replaced every five years the capital cost would be very high.
Compared to Coal, gas and nuclear powered generators which are powered by fossil fuels and uranium, which enables them to have a constant, even supply of fuel for the complete 24 hours. 7 days a week. In addition, coal, gas and nuclear powered generators have a generating life of 50 years or more, which means the capital cost of generation can be recovered over more MWhs. At a resultant lower price per MWh.
THIS LACK OF FUEL FOR RENEWABLES, MEANS THAT WITHOUT VICTORIA’S BROWN COAL GENERATORS, VICTORIA WOULD BE BLACKED OUT.

Particularly at 7pm and 7am (Or a time that suits you?) watch (and record) the mix of coal, gas hydro, batteries, solar and wind generation and the prices per MWh for each State on the AEMO dashboard.
Example: Eastern States 15/10/26 5.20.pm AEDST.. Batteries 4%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 44% Brown Coal 15%, Gas 2%, Hydro 13% Diesel 0% Solar 8%, Wind 14%. 5.20pm, coming into a peak time when solar 8% and falling is just entering its daily 17 hour, sunshine drought and wind is pottering along (in all States, it is in single figures), with no guarantee that a wind drought, might not be around the corner.
Meanwhile our coal fired generators are the backbone of the Grid. 24/6/26 5.55pm AEST. In NSW coal is producing 65% Solar 0%, Wind 1%, Qld coal 56%, solar 0% wind 4% Vic Brown coal 53%, solar 0%, wind 2%. SA batteries 12%, gas 77%, diesel 3% solar 0%, wind 8% and Tas hydro 94%, wind 2%.
WITHOUT COAL AUSTRALIA WOULD BE BLACKED OUT.
AND THE PRICES GENERATORS ARE RECEIVING VARIES WIDELY. As shown by these statistics what the generators are receiving for their Grid electricity. 15/10/26 5.20pm AESDST. In Qld the generators are receiving $54MWh. NSW is being paid $70Mwh. SA is paying -$7.86MWh Vic is paying -$8.00MWh and Tas is paying -$8.40MWh.
HOW CAN GENERATORS COVER THEIR COSTS WHEN THEY HAVE TO PAY THE GRID TO TAKE THE ELECTRICITY THAT THEY PRODUCE
