VICTORIA IS FACING BLACKOUTS ON THREE FRONTS – RENEWABLES FAILURE NO 2 ELECTRICITY TOO EXPENSIVE
The attempt to phase out fossil fuels in Victoria and replace them with Solar, Wind and Batteries is on the point of collapse. And the failures it will bring will be immense.
Failure No 2. Renewables produce electricity too expensive for consumers to use.
The claim that Renewables produce the cheapest and cleanest electricity is blatantly incorrect.
Fact 1. It is impossible for Renewables to be the cheapest. When coal powered generators, having a 24/7 supply of fuels, (coal). which allows them to be able to generate and be able to supply a constant amount of electricity, maintained at 240v and 50Hz frequency for the 24hrs, 7 days a week. This allows coal powered generators to generate a reliable supply of low cost, electricity.
Fact 2. Compared to solar panels, which have a daily, severely restricted supply of weather fuel, (Sunshine). Which only allows solar panels to produce for 26% or 6 hours a day at best, And, with rain and clouds some days produce very little or even nothing. This means that there will be a requirement for a separate backup system to be on standby for 100% of the time. To supply electricity to the 00,000? homes for a probable 16 hours of no electricity supply,
Fact 3. Wind turbines, have an identical problem, of an uncertain, supply of weather fuel, (Wind at just the right speed, between 12km and 90km/hr). At times there can be hours, days or even weeks of wind droughts, or on the other hand gales, when no electricity is produced. Which means that there will be a requirement for a separate backup system to be on standby for 100% of the time. To supply electricity to the 000,000 homes for on average 16 hours of no electricity supply, when wind droughts or gales, stops the supply of fuel (of right speed wind) to the Wind Energy Converters.
Fact 4. Take away the subsidies that prop up Renewables, they become unviable.
The subsidies are:
A. The set-up grant from the Federal Capital Investment Scheme.
B. A subsidy that is created, by electricity retailers being forced to buy 17.9% of their wholesale electricity supply in Large Scale Generation Certificates. This allows a Renewables project, to being able to sell one Large Scale Generation Certificate (worth $40 to $50MWh? Or now only $21MWh 02/7/26) for each MWh supplied. In addition to any other sale payments they may be able to obtain,
C. Taxpayers and consumers paying for the HV Transmission Lines to connect WWF to the wider Grid and particularly the VNI West and the Western Renewables Link.
THESE FOUR FACTS MAKE RENEWABLE ENERGY TOO EXPENSIVE FOR ELECTRICITY CONSUMERS TO USE.
When, the unreliability and inefficiency costs of the Renewables, plus the huge subsidies being paid. Along with decommissioning, waste disposal and restoration of the site costs, is added together. The total is huge and makes Renewables the most expensive, way to produce electricity.

Particularly at 7pm and 7am (Or a time that suits you?) watch (and record) the mix of coal, gas hydro, batteries, solar and wind generation and the prices per MWh for each State on the AEMO dashboard.
Example: Eastern States 15/10/26 5.20.pm AEDST.. Batteries 4%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 44% Brown Coal 15%, Gas 2%, Hydro 13% Diesel 0% Solar 8%, Wind 14%. 5.20pm, coming into a peak time when solar 8% and falling is just entering its daily 17 hour, sunshine drought and wind is pottering along (in all States, it is in single figures), with no guarantee that a wind drought, might not be around the corner.
Meanwhile our coal fired generators are the backbone of the Grid. 24/6/26 5.55pm AEST. In NSW coal is producing 65% Solar 0%, Wind 1%, Qld coal 56%, solar 0% wind 4% Vic Brown coal 53%, solar 0%, wind 2%. SA batteries 12%, gas 77%, diesel 3% solar 0%, wind 8% and Tas hydro 94%, wind 2%.
WITHOUT COAL AUSTRALIA WOULD BE BLACKED OUT.
AND THE PRICES GENERATORS ARE RECEIVING VARIES WIDELY. As shown by these statistics what the generators are receiving for their Grid electricity. 15/10/26 5.20pm AESDST. In Qld the generators are receiving $54MWh. NSW is being paid $70Mwh. SA is paying -$7.86MWh Vic is paying -$8.00MWh and Tas is paying -$8.40MWh. (In SA, Vic and Tas, being minus the generators have to pay the Grid to take their electricity).
HOW CAN GENERATORS COVER THEIR COSTS WHEN THEY HAVE TO PAY THE GRID TO TAKE THE ELECTRICITY THAT THEY PRODUCE?
