Australians must face up to the fact that Australia is in a dire situation. A Recession for sure, if not a Depression!
What else is it, when it is reported that “Regional Australia is the nation’s food bowl, yet Foodbank’s annual Hunger Report shows that food insecurity is hitting regional communities hard. While 32% of households in metro areas experience food insecurity, 35% of regional households are affected. From the newsletter (14/11/25) of Helen Haines, MHR and member for Indi Vic.
THAT IS ONE IN THREE FAMILIES ARE UNSURE IF THEY CAN PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE EACH DAY.
Then there is the risk of Australia’s biggest metal smelters, closing because they cannot compete with rising energy bills and cheap Chinese competition.
Glencore, Rio Tinto, and Nyrstar have asked the government for billions in support to keep their copper, aluminium, and zinc plants running.
These smelters, located in Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania, and South Australia, provide thousands of jobs and help Australia process its own minerals.
Glencore says it needs AU$2 billion to stay open. Nyrstar reports losing tens of millions each month. Rio Tinto’s Tomago aluminium smelter uses 10% of New South Wales’ electricity and faces similar financial pressure.
Australian energy prices have gone up this year. Official data shows business electricity tariffs rose up to 8.5%, and retail costs jumped as much as 35% in some areas. https://www.riotimesonline.com/australias-metal-smelters-face-crisis-why-it-matters/
Plus, Australian small businesses face recession clean-out Thursday 10 October 2024
A record number of Australian businesses entered insolvency last financial year, with firms in the construction and hospitality sectors most heavily impacted. https://www.macrobusiness.com.au/2024/10/australian-small-businesses-face-recession-clean-out/
That there are two types of blackouts. Physical blackouts (when the electricity stops flowing) and economic blackouts (when the electricity is too expensive to use, by both domestic, retail and business consumers).
And the reason why, we are facing economic blackouts is shown in AGL’s Annual report. It states:
That the cost of electricity generated by coal is between $15 - $22MWh.
The cost of Renewables and storage, is $47MWh (almost triple the cost of coal, and that is without adding the $millions involved in the decommissioning, the disposal of toxic solar panels, wind turbines and batteries and restoring the sites.)
Finally, the cost of gas is $115MWh is five times the cost of coal. The thought that gas will fill the Renewables gap will be a very expensive solution to a problem. That shouldn’t have occurred in the first place.
With these high electricity prices having such a dire affect. It is becoming very apparent that our petition: TO STOP THE CLOSURE OF ALL THE AUSTRALIAN COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS AND TO KEEP THEM RUNNING IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE.
This includes Eraring NOW 2027, Yallourn NOW 2032), Bayswater in 2033, with Loyang A in 2045 and all other coal fired power stations.
And no consideration of them being closed be considered until assured supplies of base load electricity 24/7 is available from coal, gas or uranium powered generators. Even if this requires the coal fired generators be compulsory acquired by the relevant Government, in the National interest and to maintain the supply of base load electricity 24/7 that is essential to STOP the Grid from collapsing.
OUR PETITION TO KEEP OUR COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS RUNNING. Is educating everyone of how important coal fired power stations are to keeping the Grid from crashing.

YOUR SUPPORT FOR OUR PETITION WITH DONATIONS WILL BE REPAID WITH BASELOAD ELECTRICITY FOR THE NEXT CRITICAL FIFTEEN TO TWENTY YEARS. Be it $10, $20, $50 or $100 please make a donation and keep our petition in the public eye. AND KEEP THE BLACKOUTS AT BAY. The more signatures we get the more wins will keep coming and the coal fired power stations will be kept running. Promote the petition on Change.org and share it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Whatsapp or Email.
KEEP INFORMED BY DAILY MONITORING THE AEMO DATA DASHBOARD. And alert your friends to watch the AEMO dashboard, the more know what's happening the better.
Particularly at 7pm and 7am (Or a time that suits you?) watch (and record) the mix of coal, gas hydro, batteries, solar and wind generation and the prices per MWh for each State on the AEMO dashboard.
Example: Eastern States 25th October 8.10pm AESDST. Batteries 4%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 46% Brown Coal 14%, Gas 7%, Hydro 14% Diesel 0% Solar 0%, Wind 15%. 7.45pm a time when solar has gone for its daily 16 hours (lack of fuel), zero production period. Unreliable wind is all over the place averaging 15%, but ranging from a pathetic 6% in NSW, up to 71% in SA. With the dread of wind droughts, dropping wind’s contribution to an overall 7 or 8%.
To underline the importance of our coal fired generators 25/10/25 8.10pm AESDST. In NSW coal is producing 79% Solar 0%, Wind 6%, Qld coal 68%, solar 0% wind 10% Vic Brown coal 56%, solar 0%, wind 19%. SA batteries 15%, gas 14%, solar 0%, wind 71% and Tas hydro 88%, wind 12%.
WITHOUT COAL AUSTRALIA WOULD BE BLACKED OUT.
STOP PRESS: WHAT CAN HAPPEN. South Australia 4th June 2024 9.05pm EST. Batteries 0%, Gas 97%, Diesel 3% Solar 0%, Wind 0%.
SA RENEWABLES CAPITAL OF AUSTRALIA WITH BATTERIES, SOLAR AND WIND PRODUCING NO ELECTRICITY, ZERO, NOTHING
We are up to 4,493 signatures, let’s increase it by many more, everyone’s future depends on it. Continue to spread the word, to all family, friends, anyone you meet, particularly discuss it with shop and business owners. Ask the question, “How do you plan to cope when the blackouts come? The possibility is too awful to contemplate.
WE MUST KEEP THOSE COAL FIRED GENERATORS GOING, TO KEEP OUR SOCIETY FROM HAVING BLACKOUTS, POWER RATIONING AND EXHORBITENT ENERGY PRICES.
