Because the Grid requires a guaranteed, constant supply of base load electricity, 24/7.
It is the practical problem of the shortage of weather fuel, (no Sunshine mines or Wind fields) that is why the Transition to Renewables to power our Grid, will never be successful. And why coal, gas and nuclear should be the top priority suppliers of electricity to the Grid.
For instance. Coal fired power stations can guarantee, a constant supply of base load electricity, 24/7. Because they have access to coal mines, where the quantity of coal available is known and can be mined in a way that provides the coal fired power station with its daily requirements for 24/7 production.
Gas fired power stations can guarantee, a constant supply of base load electricity, 24/7. Because they have access to gas fields, where the quantity of gas available is known and can be produced in a way that provides the gas fired power station with its daily requirements for 24/7 production.
Nuclear reactors can guarantee, a constant supply of base load electricity, 24/7. Because they have access to nuclear fuel, from uranium mines where the quantity of uranium available is known and can be mined in a way that provides the nuclear reactor with its daily requirements for 24/7 production.
However, for solar panels, there are no Sunshine mines or fields. Every day the amount of the weather fuel, ‘Sunshine’ available for rooftop solar panels or solar farms (in Winter). Is only known as the possible 6 hours of useable Sunshine between Sunrise and Sunset. Even this 6 hours may be interrupted or wiped out by clouds and rain. The only certain major fuel issue for rooftop solar panels or solar farms, is that every night of the year between Sunset and Sunrise, for 18 hours there will definitely be no Sunshine available.
As for adding batteries, they produce no electricity of their own and in fact during storage, they lose 10% to 15% in inverting current from DC to AC. The introduction of batteries into the system only increases the cost to the consumer.
This major fuel supply uncertainty (which cannot be overcome) is why rooftop solar or solar farms should never be considered as reliable suppliers to the Australian Grid.
For Wind turbines, there are no Wind mines or fields. Every day the amount of the weather fuel, ‘Wind’ available for Wind Turbines is unknown. And because wind turbines can only produce electricity, when the wind speed is between 12kms/hr and 90kms/hr. The industry reports that Wind Turbines only produce electricity on average for only 35% of their rated capacity or on average for eight hours per day. Wind Turbines can be becalmed for days at a time, producing no electricity. Likewise, if a gale blows for several days no electricity is produced
As for adding batteries, they produce no electricity of their own and in fact during storage, they lose 10% to 15% in inverting current from DC to AC. The introduction of batteries into the system only increases the cost to the consumer.
This major fuel supply uncertainty (which cannot be overcome) and the huge risk of wind droughts, is why Wind turbines should never be considered as reliable suppliers to the Australian Grid.
ALL WHICH WILL MEAN THAT IT BECOMES MORE IMPORTANT THAT OUR PETITION TO STOP THE CLOSURE OF MORE AUSTRALIAN COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS HAS TO BE HEARD.
This includes Eraring in 2025, now 2027, Yallourn NOW 2032), Bayswater in 2033, with Loyang A in 2045 and all other coal fired power stations.
And no consideration of them being closed be considered until assured supplies of base load electricity 24/7 is available from coal, gas or uranium powered generators. Even if this requires the coal fired generators be compulsory acquired by the relevant Government, in the National interest and to maintain the supply of base load electricity 24/7 that is essential to STOP the Grid from collapsing.
OUR PETITION TO KEEP OUR COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS RUNNING. Is educating everyone of how important coal fired power stations are to keeping the Grid from crashing.

YOUR SUPPORT FOR OUR PETITION WITH DONATIONS WILL BE REPAID WITH BASELOAD ELECTRICITY FOR THE NEXT CRITICAL FIFTEEN TO TWENTY YEARS. Be it $10, $20, $50 or $100 please make a donation and keep our petition in the public eye. AND KEEP THE BLACKOUTS AT BAY. The more signatures we get the more wins will keep coming and the coal fired power stations will be kept running. Promote the petition on Change.org and share it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Whatsapp or Email.
KEEP INFORMED BY DAILY MONITORING THE AEMO DATA DASHBOARD. And alert your friends to watch the AEMO dashboard, the more know what's happening the better.
Particularly at 7pm and 7am (Or a time that suits you?) watch (and record) the mix of coal, gas hydro, batteries, solar and wind generation and the prices per MWh for each State on the AEMO dashboard.
Example: Eastern States 20th March 2025 8.50pm AEDST. Batteries 0%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 50% Brown Coal 16%, Gas 12%, Hydro 14% Diesel 0% Solar 0%, Wind 8%. 8.50pm a time when Solar has entered a daily 16 hours (lack of fuel), zero production period. Unreliable wind is all over the place averaging 17%, but ranging from only 3% in Tas, up to 46% in SA.
To underline the importance of our coal fired generators 07/03/25, 8.30 pm AEDST. In NSW coal is producing 78% Solar 0%, Wind 10%, Qld coal 74%, solar 0% wind 6% Vic Brown coal 71%, gas 6% hydro 14%, solar 0%, wind 9%. SA batteries 0%, gas 75%, solar 0%, wind 23% and Tas hydro 87%, wind 10%.
WITHOUT COAL AUSTRALIA WOULD BE BLACKED OUT.
STOP PRESS: WHAT CAN HAPPEN. South Australia 4th June 2024 9.05pm EST. Batteries 0%, Gas 97%, Diesel 3% Solar 0%, Wind 0%.
SA RENEWABLES CAPITAL OF AUSTRALIA WITH BATTERIES, SOLAR AND WIND PRODUCING NO ELECTRICITY, ZERO, NOTHING
We are up to 4,279 signatures, let’s increase it by many more, everyone’s future depends on it. Continue to spread the word, to all family, friends, anyone you meet, particularly discuss it with shop and business owners. Ask the question, “How do you plan to cope when the blackouts come? The possibility is too awful to contemplate.
WE MUST KEEP THOSE COAL FIRED GENERATORS GOING, TO KEEP OUR SOCIETY FROM HAVING BLACKOUTS, POWER RATIONING AND EXHORBITENT ENERGY PRICES.
