The Federal Government has "committed to an 82% national renewable electricity target by 2030”. In layman’s language this means that they are planning for 82% of the electricity generated in Australia by 2030 to be generated by Solar, Wind, Hydro, released from BESS and Pumped Hydro Storage, with many coal fired power stations closed down.
SOMEBODY TELL THEM THAT THERE IS AN INSURMOUNTABLE PROBLEM WITH RELYING ON 82% RENEWABLES THAT WILL GUARANTEE AN ENDING IN DISASTER!!
To understand the insurmountable problem that will ensure that trying to reach the 82% national renewable electricity target by 2030 will end in collapsing the Grid. I need to explain what is the critically important part of the electricity Grid. The electricity grid is not the physical generators, poles and wires, sub stations, switches, light bulbs, etc. THE IMPORTANT PART OF THE GRID IS THE ELECTRONS (ELECTRICITY) FLOWING THROUGH IT. If the physical grid has no electricity flowing through it, it is useless. It is the flow of electrons, through the grid that brings the grid ‘alive’.
The big problem for the Grid is that it is critically important, that the flow of electrons be perfectly stable. This means that the electricity being drawn out of the Grid has to be matched exactly by the electricity that is being put into the Grid. And the overall stability of the Grid has to be maintained at 240v and 50Hz frequency, at every second of the day.
If the amount of electricity required (peak periods) is not matched by increased generation. THE DROP IN VOLTAGE WILL CAUSE A BROWNOUT AND A CASCADING BLACKOUT.
If the amount of electricity being put in (by a rush of rooftop solar) is too much, A SURGE/SPIKE WILL OCCUR BLOWING FUSES AND CAUSING A BLACKOUT.
IF A PART OF THE GRID GETS OUT OF THIS BALANCE FOR EVEN A MINUTE, A CIRCUIT BREAKER WILL TRIP AND SET OFF A CASCADE THAT WILL END IN A MAJOR BLACKOUT.
With the generators that have a assured, steady flow of fuel, 24/7, such as coal, gas, hydro and nuclear. Maintaining the balance and stability of the Grid, is reasonably easy. Increasing or decreasing the amount of electricity generated to match the demand as required.
Renewables are a different matter all together, because their fuel supply is reasonably unknown. Certainly it cannot be turned on to meet demand.
With solar it is known that there will be a seventeen to eighteen hour drought every night and the possibly with cloud and rain a mini drought can occur at anytime.
With wind its fuel supply (the wind) is equally uncertain. As wind turbines need a windspeed between 12km/hr and 90km/hr to operate, calm periods (wind droughts) and gales mean long periods when no electricity is generated. Throw in gusts of wind and balancing the input to the Grid becomes a nightmare.
BECAUSE OF THE HUGE FLUCTUATIONS IN FUEL SUPPLIES THE OUTPUT OF RENEWABLES FLUCTUATES WIDELY. IF A 82% OF RENEWABLES (EVEN 60% WILL BE SERIOUS) WAS EVER REACHED IN THE GRID, THE LIKLEHOOD OF A CASCADING BLACKOUT WILL BE HUGE.
SA IS ONLY ABLE TO RUN SAFELY WITH A LARGE AMOUNT OF RENEWABLES, BECAUSE OF THE INTERCONNECTER TO COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS IN VIC AND NSW. WHICH THEY REDLY ON NEARLY EVERY DAY TO KEEP THE SA GRID STABLE.
THE COST OF PUTTING IN A 100% GAS BACKUP FOR AN 82% RENEWABLE GRID WOULD BE COMPLETELY UNECONOMIC. THE WHOLE IDEA SHOULD BE RULED OUT NOW.
SO THAT IS THE PICTURE WHEN THE 82% BY 2030 FRAUD IS EXPOSED, KEEPING OUR COAL FIRED GENERATORS GOING WILL BE SEEN AS ESSENTIAL.
To restate our Petition is, (beginning with Liddell which closed in April 2023, Eraring in 2025, Yallourn in (2032 now 2028), Bayswater in 2033, with Loyang A in 2045). AND THAT NONE OF THESE COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS BE DEMOLISHED AFTER IT IS CLOSED, BUT BE MOTHBALLED, SO IT CAN BE RESTARTED IN THE EVENT, THAT A SHORTAGE OF ELECTRICAL GENERATION REQUIRES IT TO BE RESTARTED. Particularly at 7pm and 7am (Or a time that suits you?) watch (and record) the mix of coal, gas hydro, batteries, solar and wind generation and the prices per MWh for each State on the AEMO dashboard.
Example: Eastern States 16TH November 2024 8.00pm AEDST. Batteries 3%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 40% Brown Coal 16%, Gas 7%, Hydro 11% Diesel 0% Solar 0%, Wind 23%. 8.00pm a Peak Period, the Sun has set Solar is producing zero and the wind 23% could at any time drop to 3% of 4%. Or in other words solar and winds contribution is worthless and double, triple or quadruple the number of solar panels and wind turbines the result is just the same. 82% Renewables with no Sun, no Wind equals no electricity generation, guarantees blackouts
To underline the importance of our coal fired generators 16/11/24 8.00pm AEDST. Coal is producing in NSW 64% Wind 19%, Qld coal 65%, wind 9% Vic Brown coal 59%, wind 30%. SA gas 17%, Wind 73% and Tas 69% hydro, wind 31%.
WITHOUT COAL AUSTRALIA WOULD BE BLACKED OUT
