The basic essentials for life are air, water food. And to a lesser extent shelter, safety, sleep and clothing. With food being in the essential top three, it underlines the importance of food for Australians existence. Then even more important is Australia’s agricultural land upon which that food is grown.
While 55% of Australia’s land mass is used for agriculture, only 12% is used for growing crops, with the remaining 88% being used for grazing sheep and cattle. As agricultural land is a finite resource (once it is lost to industrial or urban pollution it can never be replaced) it must be treasured and safeguarded as an extremely valuable resource.
IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT IF THE LAND IS LEFT AS AGRICULTURAL LAND IT WILL CONTINUE TO PRODUCE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE FOR THE NEXT 100 YEARS AND BEYOND, WITH THE ASSOCIATED ECONOMIC AND JOBS BENEFIT TO THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES’
ON THE OTHER HAND, ONCE AN UNRELIABLE ENERGY FACTORY, (WIND OR SOLAR, BATTERIES OR HV TRANSMISSION LINE) IS PLACED ON AGRICULTURAL LAND THE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION FROM THE LAND IS LOST FOREVER. AS IS THE ECONOMIC AND JOBS BENEFIT TO THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. (In my opinion, it will be too expensive to ever dismantle and clean up the sites. And the risk of the sites remaining as toxic, feral animal infested, junk heap eyesores will be extremely high.
THIS LOSS OF PRECIOUS, FINITE AGRICULTURAL LAND IS WHY THE TRANSISTION TO UNRELIABLES SHOULD BE STOPPED NOW.
IT IS ANOTHER REASON WHY OUR PETITION IS SO IMPORTANT. Which is, (beginning with Liddell which closed in April 2023, Eraring in 2025, Yallourn in (2032 now 2028), Bayswater in 2033, with Loyang A in 2045). AND THAT NONE OF THESE COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS BE DEMOLISHED AFTER IT IS CLOSED, BUT BE MOTHBALLED, SO IT CAN BE RESTARTED IN THE EVENT, THAT A SHORTAGE OF ELECTRICAL GENERATION REQUIRES IT TO BE RESTARTED. Even if this requires the coal fired generators be compulsory acquired by the relevant Government, in the National interest.
May I strongly urge all business owners, large and small. CEO’s Managers, those in charge of aged care homes, and other public institutions, everyone in a position of management. Homeowners, etc. Reliable, low-cost power is essential. Blackouts are a diabolically, serious issue. Talk with your management, boards, staff about how it will affect your business.
The ACT Government claims that they are totally renewable energy powered. The ACT Government is deluding themselves and doesn’t realise how wrong they are. As all their electricity comes from the NSW Grid. It is more likely to be anywhere between 60% to 80% fossil fuels and only 20% to 30% unreliables, with the damage unreliables are doing to Rural Australia the whole project is a disaster.

Particularly at 7pm and 7am (Or a time that suits you?) watch (and record) the mix of coal, gas hydro, batteries, solar and wind generation and the prices per MWh for each State on the AEMO dashboard.
Example: Eastern States 22nd September 2024 5.00pm EST. Batteries 1%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 43% Brown Coal 14%, Gas 3%, Hydro 5% Diesel 0% Solar 10%, Wind 24%. 5.00pm coming into a Peak Period, just on sunset Solar is producing 10% , another hour and it will be zero and the wind is so unreliable.
To underline the importance of our coal fired generators. Coal is producing in NSW 70% Wind 20%, Qld coal 73%, wind 2% Vic Brown coal 51%, wind 42%. SA gas 11%, Wind 59% and Tas 66% hydro, wind 34%.
