The scrapping of this fund will see a huge number of solar, wind and BESS projects stranded and worthless. The uncertainty this announcement will make is another nail in the coffin of the Transition to Unreliables.
Also farmers who host solar and wind farms will come to realise that the Golden Goose is actually a fox with the hosts in its sight in order to eventually bankrupt them.
The Australian Federal Government’s Official Statement says:
“it could cost millions of dollars to safely remove the turbine from site”.
“It is therefore possible that the cost to decommission a turbine could be equal to or greater than the total income generated for the landholder over the 25-year operating period.
The Federal Government assumes the wind farm will default on its decommissioning obligations.
The Federal Government warns the farmer that “the liability for decommissioning ultimately may rest with the landholder”.
The Federal Government knows it will potentially bankrupt the farmer
The Federal Government states that the farmer cannot recoup costs for decommissioned equipment, because “The landholder generally does not have ownership of the project’s assets and may be unable to recover costs of any decommissioning activities from selling the assets and remaining property”.
It seems the Federal Government has set host farmers up to fail.

This recent situation shows how reliant we are on coal: Eastern States 12th August 2024 4.25pm EST. Batteries 1%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 47% Brown Coal 15%, Gas 10%, Hydro 5% Diesel 0% Solar 9%, Wind 13%. COAL IS PROVIDING 62% OF THE GRID’S REQUIREMENT
This again underlines how important it is that (beginning with Liddell which closed in April 2023, Eraring in 2025, Yallourn in (2032 now 2028), Bayswater in 2033, with Loyang A in 2045). AND THAT NONE OF THESE COAL FIRED POWER STATIONS BE DEMOLISHED AFTER IT IS CLOSED, BUT BE MOTHBALLED, SO IT CAN BE RESTARTED IN THE EVENT, THAT A SHORTAGE OF ELECTRICAL GENERATION REQUIRES IT TO BE RESTARTED. Even if this requires the coal fired generators be compulsory acquired by the relevant Government, in the National interest.
May I strongly urge all business owners, large and small. CEO’s Managers, those in charge of aged care homes, and other public institutions, everyone in a position of management. Homeowners, etc. Reliable, low-cost power is essential. Blackouts are a diabolically, serious issue. Talk with your management, boards, staff about how it will affect your business.
The ACT Government claims that they are totally renewable energy powered. The ACT Government is deluding themselves and doesn’t realise how wrong they are. As all their electricity comes from the NSW Grid. It is more likely to be anywhere between 60% to 80% fossil fuels and only 20% to 30% unreliables, with the damage unreliables are doing to Rural Australia the whole project is a disaster.

Example: Eastern States 28th August 2024 2.55pm EST. Batteries 0%, Biomass 0%, Black Coal 30% Brown Coal 14%, Gas 1%, Hydro 3% Diesel 0% Solar 24%, Wind 26%. 2.55pm coming to a a Peak Period, a sunny and very windy day Solar is producing 24% , but another two hours it will be zero and the wind is so unreliable. UNRELIABLES SHOULD NEVER BE USED TO POWER A MODERN ECONOMY.
