The bad news has arrived. Australia faces an increased risk of blackouts in Victoria and South Australia this summer with delays in delivering new generation and transmission sparking an urgent call from the market operator to plug the supply shortage or face a decade where power supplies cannot be guaranteed. As this situation unfolds, it becomes even more imperative that we keep up the pressure. Namely ‘That the closure of all coal fired power stations be reconsidered. But if they are closed, then (beginning with Liddell which was closed in April 2023, Eraring in 2025, Yallourn in 2028, Bayswater in 2033, with Loyang A in 2045). That they not be demolished, but be mothballed, in order that they can be reopened (when the unreliables fail as they surely will).
IT IS NOT TOO LATE. As a team member, can I ask you to ‘copy and paste’ our petition, https://www.change.org/p/blackouts-will-be-devastating-they-must-be-avoided-at-all-costs to your local Federal and State politicians. To local newspapers and journalists. To your local Council and Councillors as everyone in your town or suburb is going to be affected. To the fire services. To anyone, everywhere. There will be no-one, businesses, homes, public utilities hospitals, nursing homes, schools, etc., every State in Eastern Australia, who will not be affected.

Particularly at 7pm and 7am (Or a time that suits you?) watch (and record) the mix of coal, gas hydro, batteries, solar and wind generation and the prices per MWh for each State on the AEMO dashboard.
