I hope that you have been thinking about your own personal circumstances, if in the years ahead we have daily blackouts, how it would affect you, your extended family and whether you would be able to cope.

In my own case, my wife and I live in a cold home in Victoria, which in winter we heat with ducted gas heating. However, if the power goes off the heater stops, because it is electronically controlled and the fan is electrically driven. As nights get down to -4d and days sometimes up to 10d to 12d, I am not sure we could stay here if the power was off. And that is only the heating, no lights, no computer, the list goes on and on. Then there is no fuel at the service station and the cafe' has no coffee (that is really bad).

So think of your own circumstances and also think about your work and the shops and other places you visit what will happen to them. Start a conversation, it is quite simple, just ask “How are you going to cope with the blackouts when they come?”

I see one purpose of this petition, is to sound an alarm, at the extremely serious situation that we as individuals, a community and a Nation are facing.
