Blacklist the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)

The Issue

Dear Josep Borrell,
Iran is bleeding and is breaking our hearts: we are witnessing the biggest popular uprising against the religious dictatorship that has ruled over Iran for 43 years.
Perhaps you're asking why you should be concerned?

Because international terrorism must be stopped. Because we're fighting for women’s freedom, for those who refuse to accept that they are worth half that of a man. We're fighting for truth and justice for the 30,000 political prisoners executed in he summer of 1988, as well as for the bloody events of November 1998, which saw 1,500 killed on the streets during a national demonstration. Because this is a fight for freedom and choice that extends beyond the borders of Iran. We're fighting for Mahsa Amini, who unveiled the truth for the world to see, for 700 men and women killed during national demonstrations, including 70 children killed by IRGC forces between Setember 2022 and February 2023. For the people of IRAQ, SYRIA, AFGHANISTAN, YEMEN, LEBANON, UKRAINE and many other countries who have been targeted and killed by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps. Because of your safety and also at the request of the European Parliament.

What  is the IRGC?

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is the ideological army of Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei. It is the main pillar of Iran's theocracy and is the main reason the regime has remained in power for so long, despite years of popular protests and uprisings. The IRGC is in charge of pursuing domestic crackdowns as well as exporting terrorism abroad.
It also controls more than half of Iran’s economy, and thus has total economic and military dominance over the country. The IRGC has also been involved in the development of Iran's ballistic missile program and is actively involved in manufacturing and sending suicide-drones to kill people in Ukraine, which is a source of great concern for the international community.
Designating the IRGC as a terrorist organization would inflict a major blow to the Iranian regime in its entirety. Such a blacklisting would obviously limit the IRGC’s abilities and thus decrease both its domestic crackdown ability and foreign terrorist meddling.
The European Parliament, in two separate resolutions adopted on 19 January 2023 and 16 March 2023, has called on the EU to blacklist the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Other parliaments in Europe such as those of the Netherlands and Belgium have made similar calls in separate resolutions. This petition serves as a reminder that the world is
watching, and stands with the people of Iran in their struggle to establish a secular-democratic republic.

Together, we can show our support for the people of Iran and demand action against the IRGC.

With this petition we urge you and EU departements to designate Iran’s IRGC as a terrorist organization.
