National Black Women Physicians Day

The Issue

Rebecca Lee Crumpler, M.D., was the first African-American Woman Physician in the United States. Born on February 8, 1831.  To date, Black Women Physicians only account for 3% of all U.S. doctors. This petition will serve to applaud the courage of Dr Crumpler as a pioneer in her efforts and achievements.

We as Black Women Physicians would like to proclaim February 8th as National Black Women Physicians Day in honor of Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler. May this day inspire and acknowledge our perseverance in the face of adversity, while seeking diversity, equity and inclusion for all.
