The Coalition of Black Veterans call on you to support efforts to erect a statue of the legendary Buffalo Soldier Brigadier General Charles Young on the property of the National Museum of African American History in Washington, DC.  The Museum is dedicated to Civil Rights. History shows that the greatest advancements in Civil Rights came as concessions for Black participation in the defense of the Nation. Black Military History is the cornerstone of the Civil Rights Movements beginning with Fredrick Douglass during the Civil War. A fact that is minimized in the museum's limited presentation on the subject. The statue will be a tribute to the dedication and honor of the service Black Veterans have contributed to the historical passages of Civil Rights Legislation.  

Members of the Coalition plan to make a personal appeal to the Smithsonian Board of Regent. We would like to present a petition of 5,000 names or more showing support for the initiative to erect the statue.  "Lest We Forget."
