Black Ops Protective Services is a security group operated in Columbia SC by owner Melvin C. Jackson Jr. There have been numerous complaints about unfair treatment, racial profiling, excessive use of force, illegal search and seizure, stereotyping and pointing a firearm at a pedestrian. Three of the most recent cases are as follows:
~ In Dec. of 2012 while leaving a nightclub in Greenville SC a man was shot 4 times in the abdomen by a Black Ops Security Guard. He stated that he exited the club, walked through the parking lot, got into his vehicle and as he was preparing to drive away his vehicle was quickly surrounded by plain clothes security with their guns drawn, aiming at his windshield. When he refused to exit his vehicle he was shot several times through his windshield by one of the officers. It was later found that the officer was employed by Black Ops Protective Services.
~ In April 2013 a young lady and friends were leaving a nightclub in Greenville SC when a Black Ops Security guard approached her. He immediately began to use excessive force on the female and during the confrontation he eventually pointed a gun in her face. She said by the end of the night, she was in jail, charged with resisting arrest, trespassing and disorderly conduct.
~ The most recent incident was July 28, 2013. The incident began with a fight outside an Anderson SC nightclub. The club had hired Black Ops Security company and the armed security team was trying to get people to leave. A security guard stated he saw a vehicle coming toward him and that he felt threatened and then fired at the truck. The truck left the parking lot and traveled a short distance down the Highway 28 bypass before crashing into a utility pole. A 21 year old woman was dead on the scene of the crash and a passenger was also found with a gunshot wound in the arm. The security officer shot a total of 13 rounds at the vehicle as it was leaving the parking lot all bullet holes were on the side and rear of the vehicle. The female died of a single gunshot wound to her back and the security guard has been charged with manslaughter and assault.
These are just a few known cases in the Greenville/Anderson SC area but there are many other cases with pending charges in Columbia SC as well. Companies who allow excessive use of force among other things should not be allowed to operate because they are a threat to the general public.
