The Catholic Diocese of Jefferson City is, on the whole, comprised of conservative counties with high percentages of Catholics.  Many of these Catholics, especially the younger congregants, yearn for the reverence and the splendor of the Traditional (Tridentine) Latin Mass.  They have individually made this know to the powers that be.  Yet they, as individuals, have heretofore not been heeded.  So let us unite together by the thousands and, with one voice, make our appeal known.  Please sign this petition!

The Catholic Diocese of Jefferson City is the only diocese in Missouri — and one of the few in the entire Midwest — who do not offer the Mass of the Saints.  Those who desire to attend the Latin Mass have to travel two or more hours to Kansas City or St. Louis to be spiritually fed.  This is unfortunat—indeed, unacceptable.  The Summorum Pontificum of Pope Benedict XVI makes clear that the bishop of a diocese is to accommodate any contingent of the laity who request the Latin Mass.

Bishop Gaydos is on the brink of mandatory retirement, though his replacement is yet to be announced.  Before he steps down, let us petition him to invite the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP) or the Institute of Christ the King into the Diocese; or otherwise to have a diocesan priest say the Old Mass regularly.  This would certainly be his greatest and most memorable contribution to the Diocese before he retires.
