Many different people have tried to make a GSA at Alemany High School in Mission Hills, CA multiple times and all have subsequently failed. Just recently a proposed Alemany GSA has been taken all the way to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles where it was again turned down, we need help. The goal of the Alemany GSA would be to create a place for students to safely discuss and express themselves without fear of ridicule. As you’ve probably already noticed Alemany is a Catholic School and uses Catholic doctrine as an excuse for the fears of a select few, but that doesn’t mean they should be allowed to push bigotry on their students, and that also doesn’t mean that Catholicism should be used to shuttle a homophobic agenda. Alemany has already tried to silence its LGBT+ community multiple times as well as causing an openly gay faculty member to leave, as for years he was showed that he is not welcome. This petition would also like to cite the multiple homophobic clauses in the parent student handbook that many parents skim over and sign in order to admit their students into Catholic education. (*A link to the handbook and citations of specific pages are included at the end of this petition) These clauses need to be removed. We need to bring to justice obstinate organizations that try to use religion to push their political agendas, agendas that are rooted solely in fear. Thank You, any support helps.
