We strongly urge Her Majesty’s Coroner for Birmingham & Solihull and Birmingham City Council, to introduce this long overdue digital post-mortem examination facility for all Birmingham residents immediately and without any further delay.

The Issue

At present in Birmingham when your loved one dies and if a cause of death cannot be identified, the case will be referred to Her Majesty’s Coroner and may require a pathologist to conduct a full post-mortem examination to find a cause of death.  The body will then be cut open, the organs will be removed, examined and then put back into the body which is then sewn up like a sack.

A new digital post-mortem method works by scanning the body instead of dissecting it and forensic experts can carry out a non-invasive autopsy.  Birmingham does not have this service, yet Sheffield, Bradford and even Sandwell are offering this free to their residents.

BMBC is a registered charity and has been working tirelessly to get the Coroner's office in Birmingham to offer a non-invasive post-mortem.   However previously the Coroner's office has ignored and denied such requests.  We would like your support in lobbying the current Coroner and Birmingham City Council to have a digital post-mortem facility available to all Birmingham residents immediately.
