In 2017 we obtained hundreds of new supporters for our campaign for a green oasis in the centre of Birmingham, with the total number of signatures now at over 3500. In 2018 we will be petitioning the West Midlands mayor but first we want to get to 5000. This is where you, our supporters, come in. For 2018, please could each one of you get one more friend, colleague or family member to show their support by signing the petition. Tell them why green space works so well for big cities. It’s good for both physical & mental health, the environment & urban air quality and most importantly for a multicultural city like ours, it brings communities together through markets & festivals. And of course this means that it also makes sense financially, for example by reducing healthcare costs, as these recent reports show: http://thelandtrust.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/The-Hidden-Value-of-our-Green-Spaces-Jan-17.pdf https://www.hortweek.com/londons-green-spaces-worth-91-billion-natural-capital/parks-and-gardens/article/1451077 With the focus on Birmingham only set to increase in the run up to the 2022 Commonwealth Games, now’s the time to convince our policy makers to be brave enough to make a long term decision that will make Birmingham be known as a global city that holds green space literally at its heart. Thank you once again for your support.
