Petition updateTo create a public park in the centre of BirminghamCityPark4Brum update: Let's petition the new West Midlands mayor!

It is now two years since the campaign started for a park on the vacated wholesale markets site next to the Bullring in the city centre of Birmingham. Recently we smashed the 3000 supporter barrier and thanks to your support with the initial petition, some green space in the form of a small park is now part of the council plans. However as most of you know, the space allocated for the actual park is simply too small and does not fit the grand vision for one large area of public open space that would be truly transformative.
We already have enough air-conditioned shopping centres. Now we should be leading the way with markets, affordable housing and cultural attractions, all within one well-designed area of green, biodiverse and open space. Such a modern urban park, right in the centre of Birmingham, would make our city stand out from the rest and also help to address the growing problem of urban air quality.
There is still a great opportunity to make the case with the inaugural West Midlands Mayoral Election coming up on 4th May. The candidates are aware of the campaign so what we intend to do now is to petition the new mayor once he or she has entered office.
The new target is to get as close to 5000 names as possible before presenting the updated petition to the mayor. To do this, we are asking each one of you who has already signed the petition to now send this message as soon as you can to at least 2 of your friends and family and ask them to sign as well. It only takes a minute to do something that could help change our city for the better for generations to come!
Thanks again for your support and to others like Bioregion Birmingham that support our campaign (follow the link to read one of their articles). Finally don't forget that you can continue to follow updates and spread the word on the CityPark4Brum campaign via Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/CityPark4Brum/) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/citypark4brum?lang=en).
