Birmingham City Council: Make Broad Lane Safer

The Issue

Birmingham City Council’s response to demands for action to improve road safety on Broad Lane has so far been very disappointing.

Despite two bad accidents in the last few months the Council are still saying that there have not been enough serious accidents (accidents with reported injuries) for traffic calming to be considered on Broad Lane.

So we are running a new petition to demand the Council changes its mind and takes this problem seriously.

We call on Birmingham City Council to:

  • Reconsider its view that Broad Lane has not had enough accidents to warrant traffic calming measures
  • Change the criteria on which road safety schemes are decided, so roads like Broad Lane that need traffic calming aren’t missed out
  • In consultation with residents, assess what traffic calming measures and other road safety measures are needed for Broad Lane and nearby roads, and install them as soon as possible.
