Stop the closing of Historic A.H. Parker High School in Birmingham,Al.

The Issue

A.H. Parker High School is one of the oldest Historical African American high school still in existence not only in the State of Alabama, but the Nation. Parker High was one of the only two schools African Americans could attend in the city of Birmingham,Al. A.H. Parker was originally called Industrial High School when it was first established in 1900, in a wooden building. It was considered a vocational high school back then, where student attended for two years. They would then transfer to Ullman High School for 2 more years. When the school was destroyed by a fire, the school was rebuilt on the current location on Rev. Abraham Woods Blvd. A.H.Parker High School has had quite a few notable graduates such as actress Nell Carter, musician Erskine Hawkins, Civil Rights activist Lola Hendricks, and Alabama Supreme Justice Oscar Adams Jr. to name a few. Due to low enrollment because of school zones being rezoned, Parker High has lost a lot of students who would be able to attend this institution. I am asking everyone including alumni,to help me keep this Great Institution open, by asking the Birmingham City School System to rezone areas to make it available to more students. If they decide to close this school, A.H. Parker School could possibly be erased from history. Alumni like myself take Great Pride of being a member of the Purple and White, Thundering Herd family. This is not a just any old school, it is a school that many generations of families have attended and graduated from. It would be a great travesty to the City of Birmingham and those nationwide, if this school was to close. Thank you in advance for your support.
