Billionaires pay the lowest effective tax rate of any income group in the United States. In Washington state, it's even worse: Lower-income people pay 18% of their income toward taxes, while the rich pay 3% - the most regressive tax system in the country.

Dozens of Washington state legislators have introduced a 1% wealth tax on all fortunes above $1 billion. It would single-handedly solve our state's $3.3 billion budget shortfall while keeping tax rates the same for 99.999% of residents. Without extra revenue to make up for the pandemic-induced budget shortfall, the state would face devastating cuts to education and vital social services, or have to raise taxes on the middle-class.

Sign our petition to send a message to the state Legislature and the governor: pass HB 1406 and enact America's first billionaire wealth tax. They can afford to pay their fair share.
