Save The R&B Music Genre

The Issue

The music genres of R&B and SOUL are rapidly fading from popular culture.  We are demanding that Billboard Magazine divide the chart currently known as R&B/Hip-Hop into 2 separate charts.  The reason is simple.  R&B and Hip-Hop are two vastly different types of music, though they can sometimes share elements of one another.  As the genre of R&B struggles to stay alive, and the thousands of R&B/Soul artists that release new material find it harder and harder to chart and find outlets on radio and television, something must be done.  We must address this issue so that a 100% American-born art form is not lost. Hip-Hop has grown to such a level of mainstream that it outsells most genres.  R&B/Soul artists rarely if ever get a chance to enter and or ascend these charts to the degrees that their talents are entitled.  It's simple, R&B artists should not be forced to compete with artists that are not in their genre.  We'd hate to think that BILLBOARD has bundled Hip-Hop and R&B artists onto one chart because of reasons that we'd rather not allude to, but would it make sense to have a chart named "Country/Heavy Metal?" R&B/Soul artists deserve a chance to have a #1 album based upon public consumption of their music, and then measurement against an accurate criteria.  We are asking for your support on this petition. We believe BILLBOARD magazine and other publications will follow suite once it is brought to their attention, WILL make this change. This issue is PARAMOUNT to the livelihoods of the artists. Join hands with us and let's save the R&B/SOUL genres, the genre's many artists, and our Original American art form.
