Veto unconstitutional bill that would designate Bible as official state book of Tennessee

Veto unconstitutional bill that would designate Bible as official state book of Tennessee
The Issue
Tennessee has approved a controversial bill (19-8) that will designate the Bible as Tennessee's official state book. It was driven from the Senate floor in 2015 amid opposition from top GOP leaders as well as Republican Gov. Bill Haslam.
Tennessee Constitution that states that "no preference shall ever be given, by law, to any religious establishment or mode of worship." Making a religious document the state government's official book will run afoul of both the state and U.S. constitution and is a clear violation of the separation of church and state. Also, it would be fiscally irresponsible to put the state in a position to have to spend tax dollars defending a largely symbolic piece of legislation.
