Petition updateStop Part 2 of TNReadyFinal Update

As this week starts, I wanted to update everyone as to our progress. Last week, I delivered 40 pages worth of signatures (1925 at that time), and nearly as many pages of great comments to the nine members of the Senate Education Committee. I also hand delivered this same information to Commissioner McQueen. From my conversations with some of the senators and the presentation provided by the state department, it is apparent that everyone is "digging in their heels" and maintaining their commitment to TNReady. In fact the focus seems to be on the "changes" for 2016-2017. While there has been quite a bit of discussion about reduction and improvements....very few specifics are given. I am not reassured by vague promises. I do not want my children subjected to a developmentally inappropriate and meaningless test. Also, discussing next year does not change the problems we are currently facing. I am concerned with the here and now. A test that has not been proven or validated is being administered across the state now. All those who signed this petition asked for the responsible parties to stop this test. They have not responded to these requests. Knowing that as parents, grandparents, teachers, and supporters of public education we have asked for a very reasonable solution for our students, and we were denied.....we are now left with our personal decision to do what is best for our children. I thank you for your support in this effort. Assessments need to be reasonable, valid, and appropriate. Please continue to fight until reasonable and appropriate assessments are in place in the great state of TN!
