The parents and friends signed below support New York City's Gifted & Talented programs, and oppose the proposal to eliminate them recently sent to the Major's office by a task force appointed to study the reason behind segregation in the city's schools. While we are aware that segregation is, indeed, an urgent issue, eliminating programs that have proven successful in educating New York children from all races and backgrounds would be a disastrous choice. Instead, the city should focus on revamping its current programs, strengthening struggling schools, and expanding the G&T to neighborhoods in dire need of better educational choices.
